### Tragedy Strikes in Madurai: Four Arrested in NTK Functionary's Brutal Murder

In a shocking turn of events, a Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) functionary was brutally hacked to death in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and the state's political landscape.

.

On Tuesday morning, Naam Tamilar Katchi’s district north deputy secretary, C Balasubramanian, was brutally hacked to death during his morning walk along Vallabai Road in Madurai’s Chokkikulam. The tragic incident occurred near the residence of IT Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, and four individuals have been arrested in connection with the case .

C Balasubramanian, 48, hailed from Sellur. According to the police, he was ambushed by a gang of over four individuals. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Balasubramanian was declared dead on arrival. His body has been sent to the Government Rajaji Hospital for a postmortem examination.

A senior officer monitoring the investigation informed The Indian Express that the initial probe does not indicate a political motive behind the murder. The officer mentioned that a marital problem in Balasubramanian’s close relative’s family a month ago might have played a role. The entire family was slapped with legal cases and believed that Balasubramanian used his political connections to influence their imprisonment. Seeking revenge, the family may have orchestrated the attack. The investigation is also exploring Balasubramanian’s involvement in alleged criminal activities and financial disputes. Madurai city police commissioner J Loganathan visited the crime scene, reflecting the seriousness with which the case is being handled.

This murder follows a similar violent incident involving BSP state chief K Armstrong, who was hacked to death in Chennai on July 5 by a six-member gang. Armstrong was killed in retaliation for the murder of gangster Arcot Suresh in August last year. Subsequently, on July 14, K Thiruvengadam, an accused in Armstrong’s murder, was shot dead by Chennai Police after he attempted to flee and attacked an officer.Condemning the killing, NTK’s chief coordinator Seeman said in a post on X, “We will launch a protest if those responsible for the death of Balasubramanian are not arrested immediately. Three days after Armstrong’s killing, the Tamil Nadu government transferred Sandeep Rai Rathore as Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai, and replaced him with senior IPS officer A Arun. Meanwhile, in a bureaucratic reshuffle, the state government Tuesday transferred Principal Home Secretary P Amudha. She has been replaced with Dheeraj Kumar, currently Additional Chief Secretary to Government, IT and Digital Services Department. Kumar has been allotted the Home, Prohibition and Excise Department.
